The Terex / Benford range of dumpers were fitted with Newage 40M gearboxes in the Terex / Benford PT2000 dumper and Terex / Benford PS2000 dumper and the Newage 85M gearboxes in the Terex / Benford PT3000 and Terex / Benford PS3000 until Newage went into administration and then both sizes were fitted with the Spicer 401 under the Terex / Mecalac branding. Both the Newage and the Spicer boxes fitted to the Terex / Mecalac / Benford range of dumpers were very similar in design and could be described as ‘crash type’ boxes with no syncromesh on any gears and a simple 3 forward and 1 reverse nature.
As a rule the larger Benford / Terex PT5000, Benford /Terex PS5000, Benford /Terex PT6000, Benford / Terex PS6000 and Benford / Terex PT9000 were fitted with the Spicer powershuttle transmission with an electronic over hydraulically operated clutch pack for forward/reverse operations and 4 synchromesh gears with dump-switch. After 2004 the latter Terex / Mecalac PT5000, Terex / Mecalac PS5000, Terex / Mecalac PT6000, Terex / Mecalac PS6000 and Terex / Mecalac PT9000 were fitted with the ITL transmission. Both the ITL and the Spicer torque convertor transmissions are a robust unit which stand up well to the rigors and abuse on construction sites.
