2022 has been a really good year for selling the premium range of Epiroc hydraulic attachments in Jersey. For those of you that have heard of but don’t know anything about the island in the English Channel just off the coast of France here is a small potted history of it.
Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands at 46 square miles, is officially called the Bailiwick of Jersey and is a self-governing Crown Dependency and has its own financial, legal and judicial systems. It was part of the Duchy of Normandy and, if you remember your history, in 1066 William the Conqueror got in a boat, came to England and beat Harold at the Battle of Hastings and became King of England. In the 13th century Normandy was lost by the King of England and the title Duke of Normandy surrendered to France. Jersey, however, remained loyal to the English Crown but never became part of the Kingdom of England. France then spent a lot of time and effort trying to regain Jersey, the last time was in 1781 when they invaded the island and captured St Helier but then lost the Battle of Jersey and left the island for good. Hitler invaded Jersey in 1940 and the Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles occupied by the Germans until they surrendered in 1945.
Back to Epiroc. Jersey is effectively a large lump of granite with some soil on it and granite, which everybody knows, is extremely hard and very difficult to break. If granite were a heavyweight boxer Jersey granite would be the Mike Tyson end of the spectrum not the Frank Bruno. You can’t go breaking Jersey granite with some cheap, Korean hammer…………well you can but after 6 months you’d have to throw it away. That’s why anybody that knows anything about hammers on Jersey migrate towards Epiroc hammers and attachments as they know that although not cheap, they are built like the proverbial brick sh*thouse and will stand the incredibly hard life they are going to get.
Its been a good year for Epiroc attachments with 2 large Epiroc MB hammers sold to Brian Blandin Ltd and Jersey Demolition Contractors and 2 large Epiroc HB hammers sold to Granite Products Ltd and Brian Blandin Ltd. On the smaller hammers we have sold numerous Epiroc SB and Epiroc EC hammers to customers such as JDC, JB Groundworks Ltd, Aldonio Andrando and Island Wide Solutions and last but not least an Epiroc MG1000R rotating multi-grapple to JB Groundworks Ltd, a video of which can be seen on a previous new story.
Being on an island product support is crucial and the back up from Epiroc is second-to-none. With parts coming from both the UK and Germany, spare parts are never far away and you don’t have to wait ages for something to arrive from the other side of the world via a UK importer.
So there you have it, the reason discerning Jersey customers buy Epiroc hydraulic attachments is obvious, they recognise the quality that goes into the Epiroc product range will stand them in good stead. If you have a requirement for hydraulic attachments ring Mike or Laura, you might actually be pleasantly surprised to hear the price difference between quality and other manufacturers products isn’t as big as you thought.
