How many steering wheels do you think you can sell in one year?

As the largest supplier of dumper parts in the UK you would expect PES to stock and sell steering wheels and after watching another box of steering wheels arriving and being put into stock I thought I’d ask Marc, our Parts Manager, the question.

Along time ago you would see a dumper, whether it be Thwaites, Terex, Mecalac, Barford or for those with a long enough memory, Ausa (remember them) driving around site with a bent or square shaped steering wheel where it had been hit with an excavator bucket. For those drivers that were really unlucky there would be the lethal spike which was the remains of a steering wheel spinner which was just itching to make contact with your fingers and leave its mark.

No longer does this happen, the slightest knock or bend in the steering wheel results in the site safety officer appearing quicker that an alcoholic at Wetherspoons opening hour condemning the dumper as being unsafe. We might hark back to the ‘good ole days’ before the health and safety police were about but if you’ve ever caught your hand on a bent steering wheel or gashed it on the spinner spike they weren’t so good after all.

So if we take the total number of working days so far this year and divide it by the number of steering wheels sold we arrive at the figure of………………………..4.85. If we therefore round that up it means every working day PES despatch 5 steering wheels for a Thwaites, Terex, Mecalac or Barford  dumper. We don’t supply Ausa parts any longer but I think there’s only a couple left here now so there is no great requirement.

So if you need a steering wheel or any other parts for your Thwaites, Terex. Mecalac or Barford dumper you know you only have to call the dumper experts at PES who are sure to get you dumper back on the road asap and out of the clutches of the health and safety officer.
