PES are now fitting Geith hydraulic hitches to all Volvo ECR25D and Volvo EC27D excavators dressed and supplied from our base at Exeter. Geith have been around for years and have always supplied hydraulic hitches to fit larger machines but as the compact excavators, effectively sub-8 tonne carrier, have moved away from manual quick hitches to hydraulic hitches PES have increasingly been asked for hydraulic hitches to be fitted.

Machines previously dressed by Volvo at Immingham have come with either Volvo, Harford or Hill’s hitches but after looking at every single hitch available PES have decided to go with the Geith hitch. With its’s front safety lock, rear safety lock and curl to release system the Geith hydraulic hitch is one of the safest hydraulic hitches on the market so there will be no inadvertent releasing the bucket which will keep every health and safety officer in the UK happy, no mean feat in itself.

With its variable pin centre pick up it enables the hitch to pick up the widest range of attachments and there is no maintenance as it is a no greasing requirement hitch which means that as with other designs, the hitch will not jam and refuse to release the bucket as the lubrication grease has debris stuck in it causing the mechanism to jam.

The compact design of the Geith hitch, manufactured out of extra high tensile steel, means that tip radius is improved and break out forces are increased whilst maximising excavator performance because of the low weight of the hitch.

Our first machine with a Geith hydraulic hitch has been supplied, although this was a Volvo ECR50F, with the customer reporting that he was more than impressed with the Geith hitch over the previous hitch fitted to his old machine.

With the price difference between the manual quick hitch and the Geith hydraulic hitch becoming ever smaller PES expect more of their customers to specify a hydraulic hitch, especially as health and safety officers don’t like operators leaving the confines of their machines continually. Customers now have the ability to have a quality Volvo excavator fitted with a quality Geith hydraulic hitch…………a marriage made in heaven.
