After an absence of nearly 6 months, PES have taken delivery of new Yanmar 4TNV88 engines without the PTO aperture on the timing cover that are suitable for Takeuchi, Volvo, Hitachi and Komatsu excavators. The standard Yanmar 4TNV88 engine brought into the UK by Yanmar has the PTO aperture on the timing cover but this is not suitable for excavators as this aperture sits exactly where one of the front engine mounts should be.
This necessitates the front of the engine coming off, including the Yanmar 4TNV88 camshaft, to enable the housing from the old engine to be fitted. Here at PES, the largest stockist of Yanmar TNV engines in the UK, this job takes a good 8 hours to do and our Engineers have done 100’s of them. By purchasing the correct engine it saves both time and money and normally means that only a few externals have to be swapped from the old Yanmar engine to the new one to make it to the correct specification.
You have to be careful when you do it and, as a lot of Fitters these days seem to have a tool box with a lump hammer and a 12 inch adjustable in, may not have the required skill set to do it. If you do attempt it yourself and then the engine won’t start it normally means you haven’t timed the gears up correctly (that’s presuming you’ve got the camshaft in the right way round!!)
To summarise………..don’t bother getting a Yanmar 4TNV88 for your Takeuchi, Volvo, Hitachi or Komatsu excavator that’s not the correct one, especially if your Fitter only has a lump hammer or a 12 inch adjustable in their tool box. Just contact PES with the engine build code that is on the engraved serial plate on the rocker cover and let the experts determine which is the correct Yanmar 4TNV88 for your application.
